Don't know what inspired Al to write about gun smugglers but the picture he paints here coupled with Peter White's Spanish guitar gives me an incomprehensible chill, that's not to say goose-pimples. There are many Stewart songs that could make my list but
this one is can't be ignored.

ReplyDeleteAgree...probably his best, and high chill factor indeed. Another that makes me shiver is 'Life in Dark Waters'...something right out of an episode of 'The Twilight Zone'. 'Time Passages' was an album packed full of vivid imagery and historical references.....all great stuff!
ReplyDeleteThere is a strong similarity between the opening keyboard sequence in this song and 'Offshore' by Chicane. Of course Al Stewart wrote 'On the Border' many years before 'Offshore' was composed.
